What is coxal region?

The coxal region is also known as the hip region and is located on each side of the body where the femur (thigh bone) meets the pelvis. This region includes the hip joint, which is a ball-and-socket joint that allows for a wide range of motion.

The coxal region is composed of several bones, including the ilium, ischium, and pubis, which come together to form the hip bone. These bones are connected by strong ligaments and muscles that provide stability and support to the hip joint.

In addition to the bones and joints, the coxal region also contains blood vessels, nerves, and other soft tissues that play a role in supporting and protecting the hip joint.

Injuries or conditions that affect the coxal region can cause pain, stiffness, and limited range of motion in the hip joint. Common issues in the coxal region include hip fractures, osteoarthritis, bursitis, and muscle strains. Treatment options for these conditions may include rest, physical therapy, medications, or surgery, depending on the severity of the injury or condition.
